Yacht Charters to Kalymnos
Hello, and welcome to Kalymnos, the island where traditional sponges have been harvested for centuries. This was the only Greek sponge trading company to prosper after World War II. Because of its unique topography, the island is a popular choice for adventurous vacationers looking to do things like rock climb on towering cliff faces, dive into centuries-old shipwrecks, explore mysterious cave systems, and relax on gorgeous beaches and in quaint fishing villages. Indeed, and that's the point of Kalymnos. The kind of place where you can do and see everything you want!
Pothia, Kalymnos‘ colorful capital, was established on the foot, slopes, and valley between two hills. The town is notable for its small lanes and historic, majestic homes that once belonged to commanders and sporge merchants. See the Vouvalis House, the residence of a wealthy sponge dealer and island philanthropist. Visit the silver-domed Sotiras Christos Church (Christ Saviour, 1861) and the marble icon screen of Agios Nikolaos Church, both built by the Greek artist Giannoulis Chalepas, to see the neighborhood’s unique appeal. Beautifully designed landmarks such as the Town Hall and the Prefecture Hall testify to the island’s lengthy occupation by Italian rulers.
The coastline of the island of Kalymnos is somewhat erratic, and it features a number of stunning beaches, clear waters, and secluded coves that may be explored. Rina bay in Vathy is a refuge for boats and sailors, and its waters have a crystalline blue-green color. You shouldn’t miss it.
